Panera Bread's New Value Menu: Mix & Match Deals for Budget-Friendly Meals (2026)

Panera Bread launches its inaugural value menu with a new Mix & Match approach, aiming to attract budget-minded diners amid a broader industry push toward value. The company, renowned for soups, salads, and sandwiches, is in the early stages of a turnaround that prioritizes reinvestment and reversing years of declining traffic. Once the leading fast-casual brand in the U.S., Panera has slipped to a distant third, behind Chipotle Mexican Grill and Panda Express.

In 2024, Panera’s sales declined by about 5%, totaling roughly $6.1 billion, according to Technomic estimates. A central pillar of Panera’s revival is delivering value without compromising quality. Across the restaurant sector, many chains report softer consumer spending as people seek to cut costs and dine out less. Major players like McDonald’s and Taco Bell have leaned into value-focused offerings to regain momentum.

Data from the National Restaurant Association’s annual State of the Restaurant Industry shows that around 75% of diners consider daily specials, discounts, or value promotions when choosing where to dine or order takeout. Panera CEO Paul Carbone emphasizes a balance of value and quality, stating, “Consumers are seeking value, and they’re also seeking quality.”

Beginning today, Panera’s Mix & Match menu lets guests order half portions of sandwiches and salads, plus individual cups of soup. Each item on the Mix & Match lineup is priced at $4.99, with a requirement to purchase at least two items. The mix-and-match selection will rotate with seasonal menu items.

Every Mix & Match order includes a side choice of a baguette, chips, or an apple.

Carbone noted that Panera experimented with several value concepts before settling on Mix & Match, which has resonated strongly with guests and is expected to boost incremental visits.

The brand is not abandoning its popular You Pick Two option. Carbone pointed to research showing diners view two-entree combinations as a chance to enjoy variety rather than merely seeking savings. Like Mix & Match, You Pick Two lets customers combine half a salad, half a sandwich, or a cup of soup or mac and cheese, but You Pick Two applies to the entire menu rather than just a ten-item subset.
