MP Honors Outstanding Teachers with Awards & Prizes! | Education in Ghana (2026)

A bold initiative to recognize and celebrate excellence!

In a heartwarming ceremony, George Kwame Aboagye, the Member of Parliament for the Asene-Akroso-Manso Constituency, took a stand to honor the unsung heroes of education. With a generous budget of GH₵350,000, he organized an award ceremony to appreciate 22 exceptional teachers from both public and private schools within the constituency.

But here's where it gets controversial... these teachers weren't just acknowledged with words; they received practical gifts like motorbikes, refrigerators, and gas cookers, along with citations. And this is the part most people miss: two brilliant students, one each from public and private schools, who excelled in the 2025 BECE and are now in Senior High School, were also rewarded with GH₵5,000 each.

The ceremony was a star-studded affair, attracting prominent figures like the Eastern Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and politicians from both sides of the political spectrum.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Aboagye emphasized that this award scheme, his brainchild, was designed to motivate teachers to excel and elevate the quality of education in the constituency. He praised the teachers for their outstanding performance, which was evident in the recent BECE results, and urged them to maintain their high standards.

Mr. Aboagye shared an impressive statistic, revealing that since becoming an MP in 2017, he has equipped 14 Junior High Schools with ICT centers, each containing 20 computers. He encouraged the students to study hard and become responsible leaders, contributing to the district's development.

The guest speaker, William Frempong Nyarko, the Municipal Director of Education for Kwaku South, took the opportunity to highlight the noble profession of teaching. He described teachers as "builders of human capital, torchbearers of knowledge, and architects of national development." He praised the teachers in the district for their resilience and commitment, often achieving remarkable results despite challenges.

Mr. Nyarko emphasized that the MP's teachers' prize was more than just an award; it was a powerful statement that excellence is valued, dedication is recognized, and hard work never goes unnoticed.

"By honoring these outstanding teachers, we are not only celebrating individuals but inspiring the entire teaching community to strive for greatness," he said.

The Municipal Director also commended Mr. Aboagye and other education sponsors, stressing the importance of collaboration for educational success.

Hayford Ganyuie Amedagbey, the Asene-Manso-Akroso District Education Director, added a beautiful perspective, describing teachers as "moulders of character and builders of dreams." He emphasized that teachers ignite curiosity, inspire confidence, and plant the seeds of lifelong learning.

Other speakers at the ceremony, chaired by the Sanaahene of Akyem Manso, Nana Dr. Obeng Baah Kyiretwie, included George Kwame Somiah, the District Education Director for Kwaku East.

So, what do you think? Is this a worthy initiative to celebrate and motivate teachers? Or is it just a political move? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
