Exclusive: Mad Distribution has secured the MENA rights for the groundbreaking Moroccan thriller, 'Behind The Palm Trees', which made its world premiere at the Marrakech Film Festival. This marks a significant step for the film's distribution and showcases the potential for international recognition. The film, directed by Meryem Benm’Barek, is a captivating exploration of colonialism and relationships within a conservative society, blending genre and social commentary. Set in Tangier, the story centers around Driss Ramdi, a young Moroccan man grappling with his choices between his long-term local girlfriend and a wealthy French girl. The film's cast includes renowned French actress Carole Bouquet and Olivier Rabourdin, adding to its star power. 'Behind The Palm Trees' is a French-Moroccan-Belgian-Qatari production, bringing together diverse talents and perspectives. Benm’Barek co-wrote the screenplay with Fyzal Boulifa, known for 'The Damned Don’t Cry', and the film received support from various institutions, including the Doha Film Institute and Atlas Workshops. Mad Solutions, the distribution arm of a Cairo-based pan-Arab film and talent company, will oversee the release and showcase the film in its new CineMAD theatrical platform.
