Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Broadway's Top Earner! | Box Office Breakdown (2026)

In a striking display of resilience, Broadway continues to shine even amidst the chilled grip of winter and a slight reduction in the number of productions. Last week, with 29 ongoing shows—down from 31 the previous week—Broadway managed to generate a commendable total gross of $30,170,014. This figure falls approximately 5% short of the earnings from the prior week, which saw popular performances like Mamma Mia! and Liberation concluding their runs with remarkable audience turnout.

During the week ending February 8, total attendance across these shows reached 256,752, reflecting a 5% decline that aligns with the overall drop in box office revenue.

Around half of the productions experienced a decrease in ticket sales. Notably, the show Oh, Mary! saw a reduction of about $208,846, bringing its earnings down to a still-impressive $845,264 during John Cameron Mitchell's debut week as the leading character. Remarkably, this production filled 97% of the Lyceum Theater’s seating capacity.

On the other hand, Oedipus at Studio 54 delivered an exceptional performance. According to Deadline, this revival featuring Mark Strong and Lesley Manville concluded its final week on a high note, achieving a sold-out gross of $1,212,949—a substantial increase of $279,616 from the previous week.

Other productions that sold out during the week included Buena Vista Social Club, which earned $911,334; Just In Time, which brought in $1,314,310; and Ragtime, with a total of $1,090,011.

Several shows managed to fill at least 95% of their available seats, including Chicago ($1,316,977), Hadestown ($890,647), Hamilton ($1,848,898), Marjorie Prime ($355,568), Maybe Happy Ending ($1,022,741), Moulin Rouge! ($944,452), Oh, Mary! ($845,264), Operation Mincemeat ($756,900), The Outsiders ($931,783), and Wicked ($1,596,259).

Conversely, some productions struggled to meet expectations, falling below the 80% capacity threshold. Six garnered $525,436, while All Out: Comedy About Ambition collected $575,480. This latter show is set to welcome new cast members, including Ray Romano and Jenny Slate, on February 17, marking their Broadway debuts.

Achieving just over 80% capacity, Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) at the Longacre reported a weekly gross of $620,603.

The top earners for the week were led by Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which grossed an impressive $2,339,937, followed by Hamilton ($1,848,898), Wicked ($1,596,259), The Lion King ($1,514,057), and Stranger Things: The First Shadow ($1,400,514).

So far this season, Broadway has grossed a total of $1,360,545,472 in the 36th week of the 2025-26 season, reflecting an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. Total attendance stands at 10,169,492, marking a 3% rise.
