Geely EX5 Owners Get Android Auto via OTA Update: A Game-Changer for Chinese Auto Brand's Debut in Australia
Geely EX5 owners are in for a treat! This week, they'll receive an over-the-air (OTA) software update that brings a highly anticipated feature to the Chinese auto brand's first model in Australia: Android Auto. This update is a game-changer, as it addresses a key missing feature that has been a point of contention for many owners.
The OTA update, available from February 4 to 9, 2026, allows owners to download the software directly to their mid-size electric SUV using their home Wi-Fi or smartphone. No dealership visit is necessary, making the process convenient and accessible.
Android Auto, along with wired and wireless connectivity, enhances the EX5's infotainment system. It also introduces safety features that make the vehicle more user-friendly. For instance, the low-speed Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) now offers three distinct sounds: Classic, Galactic, and Constellation, catering to different preferences.
Additionally, Geely has implemented a personalized driving profile system. Drivers can set their preferred drive mode, energy regeneration level, and activate or deactivate various safety systems like lane-keep assist, emergency lane-keep assist, and driver fatigue detection. This profile can be easily accessed via a steering wheel shortcut button or the touchscreen's swipe-down menu.
Another useful feature is the customizable speed limit alert, allowing drivers to choose between no alert, a blinking icon, or a combination of both with an audible alert. The OTA update also includes a notification sound when switching drive modes and a tailgate control shortcut in the swipe-down menu.
The Geely EX5's arrival in Australia without Android Auto initially sparked controversy. However, the recent update rectifies this oversight, making it comparable to other models like the Tesla Model Y and Apple CarPlay. The only vehicle in this segment without these features is the Leapmotor C10.
Geely's sales figures for the EX5 in Australia show promising results. Despite falling short of the BYD Sealion 7's sales, the EX5 outperformed other electric SUVs like the C10 and Deepal S07. It also closed the gap with the popular MG HS, a petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid model.
