Disneyland's Napa Rose, a renowned restaurant at the Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, is set to reopen after a multi-month renovation, marking its 25th anniversary with a reimagined dining experience. We had the pleasure of experiencing the renovated space and menu ahead of its reopening, and we're excited to share our thoughts with you. The Napa Rose is a true gem, offering a unique blend of elegance and warmth, and it's no wonder it's often a guest's first introduction to the world of fine dining. The restaurant's general manager, Nicholas Hockman, emphasized the importance of creating a refined yet welcoming atmosphere, and the renovation, along with the exceptional Cast Members, achieves this beautifully.
The Space and Design:
The Napa Rose's interior draws inspiration from Northern Californian Arts and Crafts, with a focus on the colors and textures of Napa Valley. The main dining room boasts a four-course tasting menu with multiple options for each course, featuring design elements like a chandelier modeled after the Mission Vine, wooden columns, and a mural showcasing the region's vineyards. The space incorporates warm woods, cork, stone, and leather, along with architectural references to wine barrels and vineyard structures, creating a cozy and intriguing ambiance.
For a more intimate experience, guests can dine at the Chef's Counter, where up to 18 guests can enjoy a meal with views of the exhibition kitchen. The bar and lounge area has also been enhanced with a new bar, cozy seating, and a fireplace, along with alfresco dining on the outdoor patio. The newly renovated private dining room, reminiscent of a wine cellar, can accommodate up to 16 guests.
The Menu and Wine Program:
The Napa Rose's menu is a celebration of seasonal ingredients, with each course offering a unique and flavorful experience. We had the pleasure of sampling the new menu, which includes a signature mushroom cappuccino amuse-bouche, sautéed seasonal fish with lobster toast, American Wagyu N.Y. steak, Sorpesine pasta, sustainable fish of the day, roasted boneless Colorado rack of lamb, and an elevated Valhrona chocolate bar dessert. Each dish was expertly paired with wines from the restaurant's extensive collection, boasting over 13,000 bottles across approximately 1,500 labels.
The Cast Members:
The Napa Rose's Cast Members are a key part of the dining experience, and we were fortunate to have Wendy as our server. With 25 years of service, she exemplified the warmth, care, and deep knowledge that the Cast Members bring to the table. Her expertise in pairing each course with the perfect wine enhanced our meal, making it a truly memorable experience.
The Reopening:
The reopening of Napa Rose feels deeply personal, as Chef Andrew Sutton and Executive Chef Clint Chin have worked tirelessly to honor the restaurant's story while allowing it to evolve. The menu and wine program reflect their commitment to craftsmanship, seasonality, and a broader international perspective. With a focus on cooking with intention, the Napa Rose aims to deliver a dining experience that lives up to its place in California's culinary landscape.
Our Thoughts:
The Napa Rose offers an incredible dining experience, combining a thoughtfully renovated space with a refined menu and exceptional service. While it may be on the pricier side, it's definitely worth considering for a special occasion or a splurge on top-tier dining. The restaurant's attention to detail, from the design to the menu, creates a warm and elegant atmosphere that will leave a lasting impression. Don't miss the chance to experience this Disneyland gem for yourself!
