Caratini, 32, is coming off a strong season with the Houston Astros, where he hit .259 in his second year. He also set career highs with 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, and 386 plate appearances. Impressive, right? He demonstrated versatility, catching in 49 games, playing first base in 15, and serving as a designated hitter in 30.
But here's where it gets interesting: Caratini is a switch-hitter. He performed better against right-handed pitchers, batting .268, compared to .208 against lefties. This could lead to a strategic platoon with Ryan Jeffers, a right-handed hitter who excelled against left-handers with a .313 average but struggled against righties at .248.
And this is the part most people miss: This move strategically positions the Twins for the future. Jeffers is on track to become a free agent after the 2026 season. Furthermore, the Twins have also acquired journeyman Alex Jackson, adding depth to their roster through a trade with Baltimore.
